Goldilocks and the Three Bears

A classic tale that teaches manners, respect for others' property, and staying out of strange places. For ages 4 and up.

This tale is told in a very clear, uncomplicated fashion with excellent illustrations, and is accompanied by seven cut-out figures for acting out the story. Ask your child to be the voice of the bears ("Someone has been sleeping in my bed!") using a low-pitched voice for papa bear, the child's regular voice for mama bear, and a high pitch for baby bear. For fun, encourage your child to make up his/her own ending for the story- for instance, does Goldilocks ever see Baby Bear again to say she was sorry for breaking his chair?

The Story-in-a-Box book sets were awarded the 2004 "Teacher's Choice Award for the Family" by Learning magazine. Each board book comes with a built-in drawer which holds durable cut-out characters from the story. The characters are sized just right for little or big hands!

The cardboard story figures can be used by the child and/or parent to act out the story as it is read. After several readings, a child can be encouraged to retell the story with a parent's guidance or independently, using the storybook figures. Story retelling is an effective way to build communication and literacy skills. Story-in-a-Box books will give your child the opportunity to practice these important skills and have fun with a story at the same time!
