The First ABC Board Book has pages which match the sides of the blocks for building recognition of alphabet-related pictures.
Before beginning matching activities, children should be allowed to just play with the blocks, listen to you read the book, and name the pictures or alphabet letters as they are able with your guidance. Always keep reading a positive experience for your young child, and stop reading when your child is ready to stop.
Children who are ready for matching activities could be shown a page from the book, handed a block with a matching picture, and asked to find the picture or alphabet letter on the block that matches the one on the page. For fun, you could reverse this activity and have your child pick the page, with you finding the matching block.
The blocks could be nested, stacked, or laying on the floor for this activity. Since four of the five blocks are open at the bottom, fun items can be hidden underneath the blocks for object-to-picture matching (for example, putting a red apple beneath the "apple" block). Use your imagination and above all, keep your time with your child positive.
